Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a clinical health profession that aims to rehabilitate people following injury and improve movement disorders. Physiotherapy uses evidence based, natural methods; such as manual therapy and manipulation, exercise and education.

Physiotherapists are University educated movement specialists whose training includes medical science subjects such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and psychology. Physiotherapists also study a wide variety of treatment techniques and continue to do so throughout their career.

In the UK, all Physiotherapists must be registered with the Health Professions Council. Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy also guarantees that a Physiotherapist is fully insured and is governed by a stringent professional code of conduct.

The primary focus of Physiotherapy is restoring normal function, reducing pain and maximising potential, whether this be for elite high performance sport or basic activities of daily living. Physiotherapists are autonomous practitioners which means that they can work independently to assess, diagnose and treat injuries. Although often patients are referred for Physiotherapy by their Doctors, patients are able to self refer and can seek the opinion of a Physiotherapist without first seeing their GP.

Our physiotherapists at The Vale Practice will take a detailed history and assess and treat your condition with the appropriate techniques. You may then be given specific tailored exercises to aid recovery and we will also help you to identify why your problem developed in the first place. Finding the cause of the issue will provide a long term solution to the problem. Getting to the root of that problem is the key to success.
