Pregancy massage can be extremely beneficial during pregnancy and differs from ordinary massage. The therapist will have been specifically trained in pregnancy massage and have an understanding of the body as it undergoes these major physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy.
Pregnancy massage is different to regular massage in a number of ways. Firstly the massage table will be set up to support your body and your bump safely. Pillows, body wedges etc are used to provide extra comfort and padding. The Vale Practice do not use a table with a hole cut out of it for the tummy as this causes stress to the back.
Pregnancy massage benefits almost everyone, even women carrying multiple babies. Pregnancy massage reduces stress and promotes relaxation, helping you sleep better. It also reduces oedema (fluid retention), blood pressure, relieves varicose veins and increases the flow of blood and lymph around the body. Pregnancy massage can help with muscle and joint pain such as back ache and cramps. It also optimises hormonal, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary and other physiological processes which occur in pregnancy.
